Nong Thale, Thailand

Nong Thale Thailand

Nong Thale is a sub-district in Krabi Province located between Nopparat Thara to the south and Ao Luk to the north. Its inland area is rural and relatively undeveloped, while its coastline is well known on the tourism map for two beaches—Klong Muang and Tubkaak—and for the many islands and islets scattered just offshore. Klong Muang and Tubkaak beaches offer an excellent selection of high-end hotels, from Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra to Phulay Bay (a Ritz-Carlton Reserve), all promising a very relaxing vacation in a peaceful, well-preserved natural setting. Nong Thale remains far from the mass-tourism circuits of southern Thailand: the sub-district covers about 60 sq km and has a population of only around 8,647 people. The main sources of income in Nong Thale are agriculture (palm oil, rubber, and fruits) and fishing. Because of its position at the mouth of Phang Nga Bay—an area with extensive mangrove forests—the waters off Nong Thale are extremely rich in fish and crustaceans, making it a great destination for seafood lovers. Beyond relaxing on the beach, popular activities in Nong Thale include island-hopping (the most famous island in the sub-district is Koh Hong), sea kayaking through the mangroves, and, for those who enjoy a challenge, hiking through the rainforest to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint for breathtaking views over Krabi Province. Reaching the highest point takes at least two and a half hours of hiking.
